Mindfulness grooming
Practice being present while
learning how to feel muscle tightness and relieve tension through conscious and deliberate grooming techniques
Mindfulness can be described as the practice of awareness. It is the act of
being present in the moment
in a manner that is kind and nonjudgmental. When you are spending time with your horse, whether riding or grooming, how often are you truly present?
Our equine partners are always living in the present - they do not have the capacity to ruminate on the past or worry about the future. Practicing mindfulness at the barn and in the saddle not only makes us better equestrians, it can help us be more patient and present in other areas of our lives as well.
A little about me...
I have 4+ years combined experience as a working student/groom/rider for several dressage trainers with experiences at top levels in the sport.
I’ve worked with young horses just starting out on their dressage journey, to help them learn balance and straightness as they develop proper musculature.
I’ve supported older schoolmasters so that they can continue to feel good in their bodies and maintain fitness and flexibility.
I have ~20 years of experience caring for horses and refining my skills in barn management; this includes caring for my own personal horses as well as maintaining elite equine athletes at competition dressage barns performing at the highest levels.
During my years with Michelle LaBarre of LaBarre Dressage LLC, I gained a solid foundation in teaching and training methods that focus on the wellbeing of the horse and promote the best possible care.
I have volunteer experience with therapeutic riding programs and I’ve also taught kids with autism.
While working at LaBarre Dressage, I spent a lot of time learning about horses’ bodies through grooming and myofascial release. I understand how crucial it is for proper training to consider all aspects of horse care (saddle fit, bit style and fit, farrier work, chiropractic care, etc.).
I know what it’s like to be an adult amateur - I spent several years working outside the industry before I decided to pursue a professional equine career!
